1. What does it mean when verse 2 says that the earth was formless and void? When was the earth formless and void?


2. Make a detailed list of what was created on each day of creation.


3. Take note of all the repeated phrases in this chapter. What do these repeated phrases teach us about who, what, why and when of the creation account.


4. How is the creation structured in terms of days 1–3 and days 4–6?


5. What does it mean when God says it is good? Is it good aesthetically, morally or spiritually? Or all of the above?


6. What is unique about the creation of humanity compared to the rest of creation? In what ways are humans like animals and it what ways are they different, as it is described in this chapter.


7. How does the text describe God’s act of resting on the seventh day? What is emphasized about the seventh day compared to the others?


8. What does the creation account teach us about God’s nature?
